Hyundai IONIQ – why is it popular?
The Hyundai IONIQ is the latest car to hit the market that has been designed very much with running costs and environmental concerns in mind. Although the Hyundai IONIQ is far from the first hybrid or electric vehicle to become available in the UK, it is one of the first from a manufacturer with a reputation building for lower cost vehicles.
The Toyota Prius is synonymous with hybrid cars. The Prius was sold in Japan for several years before it even reached the UK market. But the Prius is not a cheap vehicle. Like for like the main Toyota hybrid is more expensive than non-hybrid cars of a similar size from other manufacturers, including some ‘premium’ brands.
Other than the Toyota Prius most of the other hybrid and electric cars on the UK market are made by premium and mid-market brands. VW have the e-Golf. BMW’s place in the EV (electric vehicle) market is secured with the futuristic looking, but incredibly comfortable BMW i3. At the top end of the market is the fantastic Tesla range of full electric vehicles. Tesla cars really are remarkable, but so are the size of the price tags.
So with it’s modest price tag, and good looking specification it’s easy to see why the Hyundai IONIQ is becoming increasingly popular.
But surely the Hyundai IONIQ isn’t the only option?
There are smaller hybrids and electric vehicles on the market, but cars like the Nissan Leaf and the Renault Zoe might struggle to perform well as family cars. Their small size is great for nipping around a city. But the lack of space could prove challenging on a family holiday. Larger hybrids and and electric vehicles, like the Hyundai IONIQ are proving themselves as great all round family cars.
